Are you overloaded in some areas to the point where your internal circuit breakers are kicking in, and totally lacking in other areas? It’s easy to get into an out of balance and overloaded situation; it’s much harder to get out of it. Small business owners have a hard time migrating to a business owner mindset and delegating vs. doing everything themselves. A goldfish has a longer attention span (focus) than humans do today, find out how this plays a role in how you advertise, write, and structure your work. In 1980 the average adult attention span was 20 minutes. In 1998 the average adult attention span was 12 minutes. According to a study in July of 2016: the average attention span in 2000 was 12 seconds, from the same study, 2015 attention span was down to 8.25 seconds.
This same study states that the average attention span of a goldfish is 9 seconds. I realize that at this point, only the goldfish are still reading… so here’s a chart…

I spent some time thinking about people I’d worked with in the past, and which ones had succeeded and which ones had not… and I tried to find something that was common to each group. I found this tidbit: people who cannot unplug, who cannot isolate, are more likely to fail over time than those able to turn off the phone, email, social media, other distractions, and focus. This also parallels not obsessing on what others think of you or your ideas.

Keep your eye on the ball… you can catch it… don’t worry about how much it’s going to hurt when you hit the ground… don’t worry about the footsteps you hear running to tackle you… catch the ball… don’t drop it… when the play is over and the dust settles and you’re in the End Zone holding the ball, it will be worth it!
