To successfully market you have to connect to potential customer’s brains… from YOUR brain. Beef up your marketing brainpower with these suggestions.
Have you ever watched the show “The Carbonaro Effect“? In the show Michael Carbonaro, a magician, plays tricks on people in various scenarios. Watch this clip of the “Everlasting Juicer“.
The human brain is an amazingly complex organ; it can adapt and overcome huge obstacles, yet be foiled by the simplest tricks when wielded by sophisticated methods.
Just to be clear here, the workings of the brain are way beyond my understanding! Very few people have the wealth and depth of knowledge that is required to understand what makes us tick (or not tick in some cases).
Back to “The Carbonaro Effect“: I get really amazed at how oblivious and downright ignorant people can be. Some of the tricks he pulls off are really slick; others make you wonder how anyone with half a working brain falls for them.
Remember, these are the people we, as Internet Business people, are marketing to most of the time.
It Will Be Lost and So Will Your Sales
Unless you’re selling very technical products to very educated people, you need to really think about your presentation with regard to detailed informational content: it will be lost and so will your sales.
Basically the general population has been progressively dumbed down for years (I write about this type of thing on another blog, not here, so I won’t get into the background of that fact). Not only dumbed down, but attention span is now measured in seconds.
Is Long Copy Dead?
Does this mean long copy is dead? I think it depends on the copy and the audience. There are no one-size-fits-all answers.
Does Video Convert Better?
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what must a well-designed video equal in words? Magicians keep your attention with words, sounds, visual presentation, etc. If you can get someone to click on a video, it’s easier to keep them engaged for longer periods of time. Note that I said “well-designed”.
Below are two previous posts of mine that deal with this topic, with information from a couple of studies, they’re worth the time taken to read:

Don’t Market to Yourself!
It means, if you’re marketing something on the internet, or using the internet as part of your business, then you’re in a different group than consumers who do not. You don’t think like them. Don’t market to yourself.
It WILL NOT Sell Itself!
If you’re like a lot of us, you rush to crank out some copy, throw together a headline, and make a website or a landing page, because the product, service, or offering will surely sell itself, because after all, it’s a great product. Then, you’re frustrated when no sales occur. After a few failures you start to realize that you must be doing something wrong. Remember, it will be lost and so will your sales.
You Must Think and Act Differently!
Just as a magician practices and refines everything about their craft, so must marketers and business people. In most markets you’re competing against people with deep pockets and professional help. You’re probably not going to stack up with webpages and copy created by those who have neither. If you don’t have the where-with-all to hire a complete IT and Graphics staff, even on an outsourced basis, then a service such as Kartra is probably your best bet. A funnel is basically a series of steps (landing pages, videos, emails, etc.) that you lead someone through on their way to becoming your customer. Watch the video that is on the page I just linked to, it’s long, very informative, and they show the product in use. With this product you can quickly and easily create winning landing pages and handle pretty much all aspects of moving a lead to a customer in a professional way that is not possible without spending much more doing it all yourself. Yes, it’s an affiliate link, but that will not have any effect on what you pay, just that I receive a commission if you make a purchase (in fact, you can become an affiliate and do the same).
Until next time,
Fred
